The C18 mansion from the grounds
The Main House
The mid-18th Century house stands in a lovely valley surrounded by heavily wooded hills. It is built in the Georgian Revival or Georgian Gothic style. Three very old Cedars of Lebanon stand proudly along one of the estate's boundaries.

Stouts Hill Frontage
Frontage
As can be seen from the accompanying photographs, the main frontage of the building gives an impression of strength and solidity with its medieval style battlements, its two octagonal bays and its unusual polygonal bay windows. The building presents an impressive sight from across the surrounding grounds. It is built of stone, the window surrounds being of Bath stone, a fine-grained limestone.

New Entrance Hall
At the top of the main drive a series of steps leads into the much newer entrance hall, where the offices and reception are situated. A corridor leads on to access the eight apartments in the main building and the other accommodation.

The magnificent Lounge fireplace
Old Hall, now the Resident's Lounge
The original main entrance to the house was through the dual pillared double doors into the hall. Here there is a large elaborately carved stone chimneypiece depicting a huntsman's cap, horn and oak branches. This is a large and impressive hall with numerous slender pillars at each end. It is now the residents' lounge.

The Octagonal Drawing Room
Octagonal Drawing Room
To the left of the hall is a fine octagonal drawing room elaborately decorated in both stucco and carved wood; the level of workmanship is high.

The Main Dining Room
Dining Room
Adjacent to the hall at the opposite end is the dining room, which is decorated in the Classical Style. High quality plasterwork embellishes this lovely room with its large fireplace and handsome long dining table. This room is used most weeks for a dinner for those visitors wishing to meet fellow guests.

Cellar
Underneath these rooms is a large vaulted cellar in part of which there is an octagonal brick pillar (the cellar is not normally accessible to guests).

The Library Bar
Bar and Library
At the back of the hall, the long corridor through the house leads into the bar and library room, which is much smaller and on a more intimate scale than the other rooms described above.

The stairwell in the main building
Staircase Hall
Nearby is the old, stone-flagged hall above which rises a handsome and wide, curved staircase to the first floor landing and the apartments off.

The Rear Entrance Lobby
Back Entrance
Leading out at the back door from the hall, there are rose beds, an outdoor swimming pool, a barbecue area and gentle slopes leading down to a large lake.

Fire Surrounds
In apartments 1, 2 and 3 there are splendid carved wooden fire surrounds and much Gothic decoration in apartment 6.

Apartments
Each apartment in the main building is individually designed and no two are alike! There are 4 two-bedroom apartments and 4 with one bedroom. Two apartments are on the mezzanine floor and four on the first floor. Accessible from outside is a round shaped studio apartment on the ground floor of the King John Tower.
