Local Attractions - Stately Homes & Gardens
There are many historic houses and gardens within easy travelling distance. The nearest, a mere 2 miles away, is Woodchester Mansion, a 19th century building that, intriguingly, was never completed and nestles picturesquely in a secluded Cotswold Valley. Woodchester Park, which surrounds the mansion, is owned by the National Trust and offers beautiful walks, the longer of which leads down to secret hidden lakes. Off the road to Bath is the National Trust's Dyrham Park, a late 17th century mansion set in stunning countryside. Quite near Stouts Hill is another National Trust property, Newark Park, a 16th century hunting lodge. The Rococo Gardens at Painswick are also deserving of a visit. Kiftsgate and Hidcote Gardens are just two of many gardens within easy reach (near Chipping Campden) and don't forget Sudeley Castle and gardens at Winchcombe. | |
